Explore the True Tropics of Vietnam

By John Parks

For many people the first thing they think about when they hear the name Vietnam is not vacation. That's quite unfortunate because this often overlooked jungle is a tropical delight with much to offer the traveling vacationer.

Vietnam is a small country that lies in an 's' shaped stretch of land along the East Sea and the Pacific Ocean, but more than that, Vietnam is home to splendid beaches, and vibrant jungle scenery. Go snorkeling in the ocean, or take a bike or horseback tour of this ancient and often historic land. A great way to see Vietnam is by bike if you have the energy. It provides a real experience of cultures combined with the vivid backdrop of tropical flora and fauna.

Being so surrounded by waters it is no surprise that there are wonderful boating experiences to be had in Vietnam. Cruising not far from Hanoi in the Ha Long Bay is breathtaking. The inlet is lined with magnificent mountains that rise up with jungle greenery covering the massive rock edifice. Many of the mountain trails have massive caves that are intriguing to explore and hikers can get swept away in the romantic beauty of the nature that surrounds them.

The Imperial City is another sight not to miss when exploring the exotic Vietnam countryside. Inside the fortresslike stone walls are many splendors. It is where the royal family lived, and there is an area called the Golden Throne that is where the Emperor used to sit.

Whether your pleasure is romantic scenery, historical places, or memorials of war, Vietnam holds vast experiences that will delight every taste. Travel to Vietnam on your next vacation and you will never again forget to think of it as 'the' place to vacation.
